Purpose and nature of the archive

Grimword is a non-commercial reference and finding aid for literary and historical research. It presents short excerpts from primary sources together with citations so that readers can locate and verify passages in the underlying editions.

Content advisory

The archive quotes graphic depictions of violence, torture, mutilation, ritual killing, and documented atrocity as they appear in the primary sources. This material is presented for scholarly and literary reference. Quotation is not endorsement, and no passage here should be read as approval of the acts it describes.

Accuracy and no warranty

Considerable care goes into transcription, attribution, and citation, but errors are possible: transcriptions may contain mistakes, translations may be misattributed, editions may be superseded, and external links may change or disappear. The archive is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.

Nothing here substitutes for consulting the cited edition. In scholarly work, cite the underlying edition rather than this site.

Scholarly citation

Each entry names the edition, translator, and location of the passage. Readers publishing or submitting work that relies on a passage should verify it against the cited edition and cite that edition directly.

Original-language texts and translations quoted here belong to their respective authors, editors, translators, and publishers, who are identified in each citation. Entries link to outside libraries, archives, and digitised editions for verification. Those sites are not controlled by this archive, and no responsibility is taken for their content, availability, or practices.

Acceptable use
